Ah how we love a good sitcom!

They make us laugh on a daily basis, offer us characters and situations we can relate to in the most intimate of ways, and generally bring joy into our homes – which is why we’re such big fans of the genre.

Believe it or not, sitcoms actually started life as radio shows, but they’ve been on our televisions since the 1940s – meaning hundreds of them have made us laugh over the last eight decades.

Of course, people are always debating about which decade was the best one when it came sitcoms, but the 1980s is definitely a contender for the award for “Best Sitcom Decade”.
