Currency
The ancient kingdom of Lydia (now Turkey) is believed to be the first kingdom to use coins as currency. This was over 2500 years ago and the coins, known as staters, were made out of a naturally occurring alloy of gold and silver which is known as electrum. This helped the coins stand the test of time.
