This Baby Who Was Born Without A Jaw Grew Up To Be Somebody Special. Find Out Who!

Out of the 353,000 babies are born worldwide each day, 120,000 babies are born with some kind of birth defect. Statistics can only provide us with facts and data on the topic, but it cannot help us understand what those kids are struggling with or what their parents are facing. One of those kids is Isaiah Acosta, a boy born without a jaw and the ability to breathe or eat on his own. But he is a brave fellow who has an inspirational story.

Isaiah Acosta was born on the 31st October 1999 in Glendale, Arizona, USA and he was born two months premature without oxygen for 15 minutes. His parents, Tarah and Sergio, were told by the doctors that he was unlikely to survive.

Isaiah also suffers from multiple unrelated disorders and medical conditions, the most severe being agnathia, a very rare condition that is marked by the absence of one or both jaws. Isaiah is not able to talk, breathe or eat on his own.

Isaiah also suffers from a congenital condition called situs inversus. In this condition, all of his vital organs are reversed or mirrored from their normal positions. Despite the prognosis, Isaiah has beaten all the odds. He continues fighting for a better quality of life every day.

Isaiah needs 24×7 care. The tube he uses for breathing needs cleaning at least three times a day and it has to be changed once a week. As a kid, he could not even go out and play with other kids without someone constantly checking upon him.

Without his parents coming in and checking upon him, it was difficult for Isaiah to go anywhere. He was and he still is 100% dependent on his parents.

Isaiah graduated from Apollo High School and has recently enrolled in his town’s community college. His parents did not want him to go to specialized schools dedicated to signing language because he is not deaf. He communicates through gestures and by typing on his phone.

Despite their best efforts, his parents could not protect him from getting bullied, especially by the kids at school. But neither Tarah and Sergio nor Isaiah seem to mind. Isaiah said for the Untold Miracles Podcast, “I am full of life and I am not letting anyone take that away from me.”

Phoenix Children’s Hospital has been his second home. He has gone through numerous surgeries and treatments for the past 20 years. The PCH raises money and community awareness of children’s health issues.

When Isaiah was offered a cosmetic jaw, he refused it because it wouldn’t actually provide a better quality of life but only make it more risky or strange. This was not something he was willing to risk his life for.

At the age of 5, he got interested in rap music. He started writing lyrics as a way of communicating his feelings and emotions even though he couldn’t speak.

He Moved Forward Despite Difficulties

In 2016 he attended a Children Miracle Network function in Washington D.C. as an ambassador for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Isaiah told some people at the event, through his text messages that he would like to become a rapper. The Children Miracle Network producer, Topher Horman, saw no reason for Isaiah’s dream not to become a reality.
