This is the marriage proposal of the year! The Northern Lights look amazing.

Have you ever imagined what you want your wedding proposal to be like? Some men pop up the question at dinner in fancy restaurant. Others do it in a romantic spot. Some even do it in front of all their friends and family. But this Australian photographer took it to a whole new level. He took his girlfriend to the Antarctic Circle to see the Northern Lights.

Dale, 34 and Karlie, 29 are both professional photographers, specifically landscape photographers.

Dale had tried to propose to Karlie before, but he had failed. He had secretly hidden the ring in a bottle he gave to his girlfriend during a trip for her to find, but she had thrown the bottle away because her luggage was too heavy.

Luckily Dale didn’t give up and he thought of a more creative way of popping the question in an unforgettable manner.

‘I hadn’t heard or seen anyone do it before, and I wanted to do something different from everybody else,’ he told Daily Mail.

Utakleiv Beach, Norway… ______________________________________ Where better to see the northern lights then in the Arctic Circle in winter… We’ve just arrived in Lofoten a few nights ago & we hit the ground running! The forecast was for a partly cloudy evening, but after sunset the sky was perfectly clear (and a very cold minus 10 might we add lol). We hoped mother nature’s electrical phenomenon would make an appearance, so we got to work scouting a few potential locations, and then the show began. We thought it was all over & headed to this location around the Fjord on our return home & all of a sudden…a jaw dropping display of purple & greenish streamers of light filled the sky above our heads! What a way to start our 14 day trip here with even more clear nights ahead, so stay tuned. As always, we’d love to know what you guys think & tag a friend who might like this too! 😀 Dale & Karlie ______________________________________ For those interested in how we took this, it is a single image captured on the @nikonaustralia D810 + 14-24mm Lens. Camera settings were: 13” | f/2.8 | ISO4000. ______________________________________ For anyone interested in a ‘One on One’ photography workshop, or prices on any @nisifiltersaustralia, feel free to send us a message! 🙂

Reine, Norway… ______________________________________ Lofoten is an archipelago known for its distinctive scenery with dramatic mountains & towering peaks. Driving between fjords it really is easy to get lost in the beauty of this country. We find ourselves often stopping to admire the light we saw hitting this mountain. Here is a quick shot we took yesterday… Dale & Karlie ______________________________________ Captured on the @nikonaustralia D810 + 80-400mm Lens with the @nisifiltersaustralia 1.2 Grad ND & CP. ______________________________________ For anyone interested in a ‘One on One’ photography workshop, or prices on any @nisifiltersaustralia, feel free to send us a message! 🙂

Both of them had travelled to the Antarctic Circle before. Not one time, but 30 times. It was their favourite spot and that is why this place was so special.

Spending a month working in one of the most stunning countries in the world & sharing our passion for photography with…

After seven years dating, Dale though it was about time to propose to his girlfriend.

Karlie couldn’t understand why Dale was so insistent for them to take a selfie. Until that moment she hadn’t suspected anything. It was finally when the Northern Lights lit up the sky that Dale kneeled and asked for Karlie’s hand in marriage. Karlie was shocked but she said ‘yes’.

Lofoten, Norway… ______________________________________ WE'RE ENGAGED! What a better way to propose than in the heart of the Arctic Circle under the Northern Lights. It's taken a few years to plan but I always had this moment in mind & it seemed fitting as we are both landscape photographers who share a passion for photographing the aurora. Originally I was going to propose in Iceland last year but unfortunately Karlie decided to discard my secretly stashed ring (yes, that actually happened 😂 lol, we were trying to cut weight on a connecting flight from the Faroe Islands). Fortunately though my plan worked & tonight the aurora was firing in one of the most incredible displays of colour we have ever seen. I tricked Karlie into believing we were shooting a selfie & used a torch to light us up for the image. Much to her shock, it wasn't any normal selfie, and much to my shock, she said yes! 😝 This is a single image that was taken during the proposal. And now we may not have any of our own images up hanging on our walls at home…we may however, make an exception for this one. 💍 Dale & Karlie

Dale and Karlie didn’t have any pictures of them as a couple on their walls, but this one is fore sure the first of many amazing photos to come.
