This Animal Shelter Wants People to Raid Them Instead of Area 51

Oklahoma City Animal Welfare

Most people don’t tend to consider adoption because there are a lot of preconceptions regarding adopting a pet from a shelter. But one particular animal welfare center in Oklahoma City is calling on UFO enthusiasts to come and storm their shelter and adopt a pet instead of raiding the top-secret Area 51 base. Wait! You don’t know what we’re talking about? Well, apparently, more than 1.9 million people have said that they plan to raid Area 51 to “see them aliens”. Luckily, the clever staff at Oklahoma City Animal Welfare posted a message on Facebook that might help a few animals find their forever home.

An Out-of-This-World Request

There are tons of animals desperately hoping they’ll get adopted all over the world. But when a group of online folks claimed they would go to any length to raid Area 51 to see aliens, the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare shelter came up with a genius way to get people’s attention.

Storm This Shelter First

The reps at the OKC shelter wrote a plea on their Facebook page. “Come storm our shelter… We have great animals ready to protect you from the Area 51 aliens. Adoption isn’t that far out of this world! #stormtheshelter.” Now, that’s bound to tug at an “X-Files” fan’s heart.

Don’t Do it Alone

The Facebook event called: “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop Us All” is all set for September 20th and nearly 2 million UFO enthusiasts are planning to break into the base where aliens and their spaceships are allegedly kept. So, the shelter jokingly came up with a creative and adorable way to use this event to get people interested in adopting pets.

They’ve Come Prepared

The center’s employees have dressed up their dogs with tin foil hats and even shaped them so they have cutesy antennas. And people have fallen head over paws in love with the idea. “Well done OKC, this is brilliant! I hope you get a ton of adoptions!” wrote one person on the post.

Felines to the Rescue

The shelter has 116 dogs, 2 pigs, a hamster and also 39 kitties. So, to entice cat lovers looking for a new pet, they uploaded a photo of a couple of kitties with space-themed filters. And thanks to the post going viral, some of these dogs and a cat have found a forever home already.

They’re Ready to Go

If you’re apprehensive about bringing your pets along for your alien hunt, the shelter assures potential adoptive parents that their pets are treated for worms and vaccinated. They’re also spayed or neutered. And if they get lost in Area 51, a microchip implant will help you track them down.

They All Deserve a Home

The adoption fee is $60 for both dogs and cats, but the shelter may make a reduction for certain cases like if the animal has a medical condition or is over 4 years old. So for anyone interested in adopting a couple of these four-legged alien hunters, the shelter is open from 12 to 5:30 pm every day.
